Le monde est stone. In a rare chance to revisit one of Daniel’s favorite beaches, I saw this fascinating work of raw and spontaneous art. It was enchanting to see this quiet almost meditative gathering of “inanimate” beach pebbles delicately balanced like so many contemplative daruma.
Le monde est stone-
Beyond all the busy-ness of his life: the plans and deals, there was a great depth. I was taken by the fierce contrast of this inner life- the dark and the light. (“Je cherche le soleil au milieu de ma nuit”). He shared many of his deep fears, terrors, rage as well as compassion, love and tenderness so I link this video that to me expresses this deep conflict raging within him. I fear there is a tendency to simplify and categorize. I would want to acknowledge the depth of his humanity with all its strengths, weaknesses and conflicts (“Qui m’fais du cinéma, Ohhh mon cinéma”). The cinéma of this struggle, perhaps too simply put, is that we all walk this path fighting demons and searching for angels (and then all to often discarding our angels to chase after seductive destructive demons) but there is also time to rest and reflect which seemed to me to be the silent invitaion of these enchanting butterfly beach daruma.
Stone, le monde est stone
Laissez-moi me débattre
Venez pas me secourir
Venez plutôt m`abattre
Pour m`empêcher de souffrir
J`ai la tête qui éclate
J`voudrais seulement dormir
M`étendre sur l`asphalte
Et me laisser mourir
